Proving that you can find funding for any question that plagues you, researchers at Penn State’s College of Information and Technology have been able to categorize all of the queries that come into search engines itno 3 categories with 74% accuracy.
According to their findings, search engine users are doing informational, navigational or transactional searching. 80% of searches were informational (looking for a specific fact or topic), while 10% were navigational (looking for a specific website), and 10% were transactional (looking for information related to buying a particular product or service)
My thought is this: Those 3 “categories” seem to encompass any type of “search” anyone would ever make in any environment. Aren’t we all usually looking for information on a topic, looking for a specfic place to go/see/experience, or looking for a way to buy something? Is it really that surprising that people make these kinds of searches on the internet, when that’s what people are searching for in life?
