Tomorrow many of you will be standing in line at your designated polling station, anxiously waiting for the chance to participate in the wonderful right to vote. However, this glorious occasion could go horribly wrong. The lines might be too long! You might be heckled by a crazed campaign advocate! You might even be turned away! What is one to do?
Never fear, Twitter is here!
An organization called “Election Protection” has joined the Twitter community to help you Protect the Vote. If you run into any problems at the polls “such as long lines, voter intimidation, suspicious behavior, machine malfunctions, registration errors, etc.” simply Twitter your problem (from the web or your phone)! Include a hash-tag with your zip code and (if you know it) your precinct number. Also include a hash-tag “EP” (for Election Protection) + your state’s abbreviation. To feed live into the Vote Report website, also include the hash-tag “#votereport.”
Here is a sample tweet: “@866ourvote Long line est. wait of 2hrs. Some leaving after seeing the line #22205 precinct4 #EPVA #votereport”
Your panicked tweets will be monitored by @866ourvote by a team assigned to your state. They will confirm your report and work to fix it!
This is the perfect example of how Twitter can be used by a brand to connect to its consumers. Using Twitter enables a brand to respond directly to customers questions/concerns. It’s a virtual one-on-one customer service experience. Wouldn’t it be nice to never hear “Press one for English, two for Spanish” ever again?!
Brands and companies would be wise to follow Election Protection’s example and use Twitter to create an innovative and effective customer service tool that could cut down on time and customer aggravation.
